Donations Committee

A sub-committee of the Scholarship and Standards Committee, the Donations Committee reviews, investigates and documents all requests for journal ads and donations from charitable organizations or events. The committee considers the type of organization making the request and the event or program. The committee also considers the relationship of the organization or event to national programs of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the locale and population to be served and the types of services provided.

Upon receiving a solicitation for support of an event or organization, the committee determines whether the requested funding is clearly related to the Five Point Thrust of the sorority and whether it will provide service to Baltimore County. The funds must support Economic Development, Educational Development, International Affairs, Physical and Mental Health, or Political Awareness. The requesting organization or event must be located in Baltimore County or have a direct impact on the County. If this information is not clearly stated in the request, the committee will contact the organization for clarification. The committee recommends a donation amount to the chapter that is within budgetary limits. The committee will continue to recommend support for organizations that have supported BCAC in the past.

Funding to support such requests is drawn from BCAC’s Public Service monies. For processing purposes, it is advisable that donation requests be mailed no less than three months prior to the organization’s deadline. All deadlines should be prominently placed on the solicitation letter and any other printed materials that are included in the mailing.
